In einem mit heterogener Bebauung gelegenen Gewerbegebiet in Wiesbaden-Nordenstadt ist ein Laborgebäude entwickelt worden. Der Gebäudekomplex besteht aus zwei Baukörpern, die in zwei Bauabschnitten errichtet werden; der erste Bauabschnitt ist realisiert. Dabei sollte jeder Baukörper für sich eine Ganzheit abbilden, um keine Torsowirkung entstehen zu lassen, da nicht feststeht, wann der zweite Gebäudeteil errichtet wird.
Umforana ist ein Labor für Umweltanalytik und Auftragsforschung und betreibt ein Auftragslabor für chemische und physikalische Prüfungen. Der derzeitige Schwerpunkt der Tätigkeit liegt in der Prüfung von Arzneimitteln auf Stabilität im Rahmen des Zulassungsverfahrens für pharmazeutische Produkte. Dazu ist es notwendig, Prüfmethoden zu entwickeln und zu validieren.
Die Prüflabors gliedern sich in der Regel in Bereiche der Probenvorbereitung. Im Anschluss werden Prüfergebnisse mittels instrumenteller Analytik, z.B. Gaschromatographie, Atomabsorptionsspektrometrie und Hochleistungsflüssigkeitschromatographie erzeugt.
Die Klarheit und Exaktheit dieser Ablaufprozesse, verbunden mit der Präzision, Reinheit und Rationalität der Handlungsabläufe sollten sich in der Gestalt des Gebäudes wiederfinden. Als weiteres Ziel war angestrebt, im städtebaulichen Kontext der Beliebigkeit und der Banalität eines Gewerbegebietes im Weichbild der Stadt einen Pol der Ruhe, Einfachheit und Gelassenheit abzubilden.
Um ressourcenschonend zu bauen, wurden unter anderem folgende Instrumente eingesetzt: Grosse Fensteröffnungen der Laborbereiche nach Norden (arbeitslicht); hochgedämmte, kompakte Baukörper und Fassaden; Einsatz von erneuerbaren Energien.

Laboratory Umforana in Wiesbaden-Nordenstadt 2008
In an heterogeneously developed industrial park in Wiesbaden-Nordenstadt, a laboratory was developed. The building complex consists of two structures, which were erected in two construction phases; the first was executed.
By doing so, each structure should reflect a whole, in order to not allow a torso effect to arise, since it is not clear when the second part of the building will be erected.
Umforana is a laboratory for environmental analysis and contract research. It also runs a contract laboratory for chemical and physical tests. The current focus of the laboratory is the testing of the stability of drugs in the approval process for pharmaceutical products. For that, it is necessary to develop and validate methods of testing.
The laboratories are divided generally into the areas of sample preparation. Following this, test results are generated by instrumental analytical methods, e.g. Chromatography, atomic absorption, spectrometry and high performance liquid chromatography.
The clarity and exactness of the work flow, connected with the precision, rationality, and purity of the courses of action should find themselves again in the structure of the building. As a further goal, we sought to depict a zone of peace, simplicity, and serenity in the urban context of arbitrariness and the banality of an industrial area in the city's precincts.
In order to build resourcefully, the following instruments, among other things, were used: large window openings to the north in the laboratory areas (work lighting); highly-insulated compact structure and facades; use of renewable energies.
